This fantastic charity is one close to our hearts, with people or family within our team being affected by both diseases, and one which we would love your support in helping!

The MS and Parkinson’s Society Marlborough offers members within our community one on one support, information, social gatherings, exercise groups, community worker visits, referrals and a listening ear.
The Marlborough MS Society was incorporated in 1977 to provide support to people who have MS, with the local Parkinson’s group joining them in the mid 1990’s. The society includes people with MS, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s and other rare neurological conditions, who are residents in Marlborough.
They are made up of volunteers and one amazing administrator, working 20 hours a week, to provide services to the community, both by giving their time to serve the community and undertaking fundraising and other activities.
Our lovely owner and principal, Angela Bowers, was diagnosed with MS 5 years ago and is proof that the disease is not a death sentence.
The scary reality hit Angela when she woke up with numb feet one morning and within 4 days went completely numb from the waist down. After multiple tests were completed, Angela was diagnosed with MS after lesions were found on her brain and spine.
“It does change your life, from mobility and cognitive functions, but its not a death sentence. Having support not only for the person that is diagnosed, but the family and friends that are the support to that person, is vital to understand what the journey is” Angela says.
Taking time out to rest is a big part of Angela’s journey and coping with her symptoms, especially fatigue. “The disease effects everyone in different ways and its often not something that you can physically see, unless someone’s using a walking stick, you don’t know they have MS, which is hard for people to understand the way you act or why you need to take time out” she says.
The MS and Parkinson’s Society Marlborough were a great help to Angela in understanding the disease in the early stages of her diagnosis and she can’t thank them enough for their support.
